Do you have enough work credits to qualify for Social Security Disability?

On Behalf of | Jun 27, 2019 | Social Security Disability |

If you live with one or more physical or mental disabilities or impairments that prevents you from working, you may wish to apply for Social Security Disability benefits. However, to qualify for Social Security Disability in Texas, generally you must have worked five of the past ten year, that is 20 quarter years of the past 40 quarter years. This rule is different if you are under 31 years of age or are 61 years of age or older, and it would be best to discuss you case with an attorney if you fall within those age groups.

If you do not qualify for Social Security Disability benefits because you have not worked enough and you have one or more physical or mental disabilities or impairments that prevents you from working, you may qualify for Supplementary Security Income, that is SSI. SSI is available to you if you have no income or very little income and very limited assets.  SSI only pays up to $750.00 per month, however.

Very often it is best to apply for both Social Security Disability and Supplementary Security Income.
